Frame structure

The machine frame is a box-shaped structure, inside of which there is a drive pulley and two rollers. It consists of a curved sidewall of a broken C-shape, installed on a wide base. The material used for all parts of this sanding machine is thick plywood. A work table with a slot for a sanding belt is attached to the lower ledge of the frame. The drive pulley is mounted on the vertical part of the frame, the guide roller is on the bottom end, and the tension and control pulley is on the top. But some devices can be made quite easily yourself, turning the grinder into a series of simple but convenient machines that will always come in handy in a workshop or at a construction site.

We have a thick plywood sheet. It has fastenings installed on it: racks that secure the rear part of the angle grinder through a bearing assembly on clamps. The front part of the grinder rests on a corner and is also fixed to the plywood. This is an easy way to make a grinder or sharpener.

Why a bearing unit? And in order to quickly turn the machine into a cutting machine. Just remove the corner from the front. And in the plywood we make a slot using a disk on the wood. On the right you can see the workpiece stop.

If the structure (the front part of the angle grinder) is fixed in a certain position so that the disk remains in the slot, and the sheet itself is turned over and installed on the legs, you will get a miniature circular saw. Just use it with workpieces that will not lead to the disc biting. I would exclude metal (aluminium) for work. And follow safety precautions!

You can simplify this fastening unit, purchase four corners at a hardware store and screw the bearing unit to them.

I suggest looking at a few more options for homemade frames and accessories for your angle grinder, which will allow you to work both on a grinding (or sharpening) and cutting machine:

A plate with corners welded in the shape of a rectangular pipe (or you can immediately weld a rectangular pipe 60x40 mm) - we screw two corners to it with holes for attaching an angle grinder. A piece of round pipe is welded onto the plate for attaching a stand to support the workpieces. We fix the angle grinder with two bolts and clamp the “stand table”. That's it, we can grind or sharpen (depending on the stone or attachment on the grinder). But also - follow safety precautions!

The next option is a cutting machine for a large and powerful angle grinder:

The basis of the design is a turning mechanism from a truck. It is screwed to the frame, and a bracket for attaching the angle grinder is welded to it. Between the frame and the bracket there is a spring to return the angle grinder to its original position. The workpiece is also clamped with a homemade clamp made from an elongated nut and a stud on the same frame. There is no need to hold the workpiece with your hands.

There are similar frames made in China on sale. But as they write in the comments, they have too much play and the quality of the cut is poor.

I made a machine for sharpening small carbide cutters. I spent a couple of weekends on the whole project.

First of all, I bought a Makita grinder with 10,000 rpm.

I searched and found in the garage: scraps of a sheet 20 mm thick, a corner with a shelf 100 mm, a piece of strip 10 mm thick, steel and brass rods, a piece of duralumin, screws and wings.

I wanted the table to be adjustable in height and tilt. I also wanted the main table to have a movable table with an adjustable stop.

Actually, this was done, and this is how my homemade sharpening machine from a grinder turned out.

I would like to clarify that the main idea of ​​the frame and bracket was to be able to adjust the table vertically and inclination. And the idea of ​​a movable table is that by pressing the cutter against the stop, you can gradually move it forward with a screw. That is, I moved the cutter with a screw, then the table back and forth along the circle. It’s still not enough, I moved the cutter forward with the screw and back and forth again.

The diamond wheel, despite its miniature size, cuts quite aggressively. In general, now I can sharpen small incisors quite quickly. True, I haven’t figured out how to make scales with degrees yet.

Our grinding machine consists of the following elements:

In our case, we didn’t take a new grinder, which means it needs to be cleaned. It is necessary to remove all excess grease and remove visible defects and debris with a brush. This stage does not carry a functional load, but thanks to cleaning, nothing will interfere during work, and performing certain stages of work will be more convenient and much more enjoyable.

In what cases do you need a grinder?

A belt sander is an absolutely necessary thing if you need to perform any of the following operations:

  • remove burrs that remain after any type of material processing;
  • remove rust on the metal surface, which will then be primed and painted;
  • straighten the edges of the material damaged during the cutting process;
  • remove seam defects after welding work;
  • remove the so-called flash that remains on the product during the casting process.

A mini grinder made from an angle grinder can easily cope with all such problems. Moreover, the device, which has a compact size, does not require a specially equipped workshop for installation. You can use it in a garage, in a barn, or even in the kitchen of an ordinary city apartment. In this case, however, you will have to take care of effective sound insulation so as not to provoke a scandal with your neighbors.

Making a grinding machine

Base

We begin to manufacture the base on which the movable bracket and rollers are attached. The future workpiece should be marked for fastening the sanding machine belt as shown in the picture below. All dimensions of the part are adjusted exclusively to the dimensions of the grinder. It is important that the part fits exactly under the angle grinder and fits tightly to the body, since the sizes of angle grinders are different, the dimensions may also differ.

And then start cutting out the desired part. This work requires precision, especially when drilling a hole for the gearbox shaft.
