Water-jet engine types and their advantages

  • in an area where there are a lot of small plots;

Manufacturing of fastenings and installation on the boat

To install a homemade motor on an inflatable boat, you will have to make a special mount. The following option is possible: a ring is used to which the belt is attached. To connect the product to the transom, it is permissible to use an old unnecessary meat grinder. To do this, the lower part is cut out in it, and a hole with a diameter of 12 mm is drilled in the transverse plane. To do this, you will also need a pin with a diameter of 12 mm and a length of 100 mm. One side must be flattened and a hole with a diameter of 6 mm drilled. An M6 bolt is inserted into this hole, after which the scythe eye is attached to this bolt using a nut.

The homemade device is installed on the watercraft in the following order:

  • The homemade product is attached to the transom of the boat using a pin and nut.
  • After this, the motor is mounted and fixed using the appropriate connection. Then it is checked how the motor turns in one direction and the other.

  • to move the vehicle through water in the future, it is necessary to take a propeller equipped with a gearbox;
  • the control unit will make it possible to turn the boat while moving and monitor the control speed of the electric motor.

Every man can easily find all these elements that are required to create such a motor in a screwdriver or drill. If you decide to use an electric drill, then in the future you should make sure that it is placed as far as possible from the surface of the water. If even a small amount of water gets on the control unit, it can immediately stop the boat while moving in the middle of a body of water.

To make an electric motor from a drill or screwdriver, it is important to take care of preparing such important tools and elements as:

  • scissors designed for metal carving;
  • a set of drills and an electric drill;
  • welding machine;
  • grinding and cutting wheels together with a grinder;

  • to secure the motor, in the future you will need handmade or factory-made clamps;
  • to secure the motor to the so-called transom of the boat, you can take a gearbox from a device such as an angle grinder;
  • tubes designed to connect the motor and create a rod;
  • a metal round rod, which will subsequently be used for the motor shaft;
  • for a propeller type, you can take sheet metal.

Motor control and other design options for its creation

Although the electric motor is ready, it is not yet capable of cornering. In order not to turn with the help of oars, it is necessary to make minor modifications to the design. It is enough to attach a bolt to the central part of the mount, onto which you then put a pipe. This will make it possible to make turns by changing the position of the base and, accordingly, the electric motor.

You can weld another handle to the base, connecting it to a regulator responsible for supplying current to the motor. It would be advisable to use a rheostat. However, in this case, you will have to slightly change the drill itself by connecting the motor located in its body to a rheostat. This will allow you to create a more functional design.

Screwdriver as a motor

There are several ways to make an electric motor. Instead of a drill, you can use a screwdriver. In design, it is almost no different from a device with a drill. A distinctive feature of the product is its lower maintenance cost. So, one twelve-volt battery will be enough to operate the device for six hours. However, you will have to sacrifice speed due to less power.

In order for a sailing vessel to move faster, larger pitch propellers can be used. In addition, as in the previous case, the electric motor based on the screwdriver can be equipped with handles that make it easier to control.

The process of creating a propeller

Every man knows that a device such as a drill operates at fairly high speeds, and, as you know, they are completely unacceptable for a propeller. In such a situation, it is necessary to take an action that will slightly reduce the speed. To do this, a gearbox is installed, which reduces all speeds transmitted to the propeller at least several times. Based on what the design solution of the future motor will be, several such gearboxes may be needed. The main task of the upper gearbox is to reduce the speed, for example, from 2000 to 300 per minute. This is what will allow the boat to move normally across the pond. The use of the lower gearbox is provided for installing the propeller in the horizontal direction.

To make a propeller intended for a propeller, you need to mark it on a small piece of steel. The diameter of such a metal sheet should not exceed 130-150 mm. The ideal option would be stainless steel, but in this case you need to prepare for the fact that working with it will be quite difficult. In the central part of the metal square you need to drill a small hole intended for the landing screw.

The slits in the diagonal direction should be made so that the sheet remains intact by 25-30 mm in the center. Once this process is completed, you can move on to the process of creating the shape of the blades. Externally, they should have a rounded appearance. To ensure that the blades do not vibrate during operation, it is necessary to ensure that their size is the same during manufacture. After this, the blades are positioned to each other at a certain angle, and it is important to take into account the direction of the blades during rotation.

Motor protection

To make a boat motor protection with your own hands, you need to bend a ring from a 3-mm duralumin strip on a wooden round block (the diameter is slightly larger than the screw, and the width is 12 cm), bending the edges so that when pressed against the anti-cavity plate, they hold the nozzle as parallel to the screw as possible axes.

Next, a plate is drilled for the bolts and a ring-shaped attachment is attached, with a screw placed inside. The installation of the nozzle is adjusted using shim washers for the bolts.

Other devices used to create a boat engine

In fact, there are quite a lot of ways to create a motor; the main thing is to correctly approach the process of selecting related parts and the most suitable base. In addition to a screwdriver, you can use a walk-behind tractor or a trimmer. But the best technical characteristics will have a boat motor made from a chainsaw with your own hands.

Due to the fact that fuel consumption in this type of engine is minimal, it is often made from this very device. In this case, the tank will have a transparent appearance. A homemade propeller that acts as a propeller is often made of duralumin. The edges must be carefully sharpened, and the propeller blades must have a 10mm bend. The ring attachment, which is necessarily used to make such a motor, is designed to protect the boat from damage during operation.

Using adapters, you need to connect the propeller and the motor shaft. You need to remove the starter from the lawn mower. Using a previously prepared drawing, you can begin to create a motor from an element such as a trimmer.

The motor can also be built from a starter taken from a device such as a walk-behind tractor. To assemble a four-stroke model, use a conventional type of fuel system, but make sure that the pump designed for pumping water has excellent quality indicators. If you have any old engine, then you can remove the so-called deadwood from it.

Above an element such as a carburetor, it is necessary to install the fuel pump in such a way that there is not the slightest contact with the rocker arm. You can use clamps to secure them. The crankshaft should be secured directly above the gear at the top. The water pump should be installed under the deadwood. For free operation of the lower rod, you can use springs.

What do we need?

To create a motor for a boat, you need to prepare the following elements:

  • screwdriver, drill or 12 V car battery;
  • reduction gear;
  • slats for fastening;
  • profile 20*20 mm for engine mounting;
  • to construct a rod, a pipe with a diameter of 20 mm is required;
  • Bulgarian;
  • metal sheets - for the screw;
  • scissors;
  • metal rod for making a shaft;
  • angle grinder;
  • self-tapping screws

In trimmers, a propeller is installed instead of a reel. Sometimes a motor cultivator is modified by installing self-made blades instead of milling cutters.

Aluminum blades are mounted in the same plane with the shaft. They must be perpendicular to the movement of the boat. The blades are attached to the body.

It is often recommended to make a motor for a boat from a lawn mower, since this device has characteristics that require minimal modification. The design of the mower is very similar to the design of the factory motor, which is clearly shown by the drawings of the outboard motor.

This will save a large amount of fuel. In addition, such an engine can be 4-stroke. All manual lawn mowers use a translucent or plastic tank, which makes it possible to constantly monitor the volume of fuel.

For modification you will need:

  • trimmer;
  • duralumin – 10*30 cm, 2 mm thick – for a screw;
  • welding machine (preferably semi-automatic);
  • vise for securing the engine.

The screw is cut using a chisel and grinder. The edges need to be processed with a file. The propeller blades are usually made curved by about 10 mm. The screw is installed in place of the trimmer head.

Boat motor made from a chainsaw

The Moscow 10 boat motor, the repair of which is simple, can be made quite simply from a device such as a chainsaw. To make it, you need to take a screw mechanism, the so-called gearbox, and, without fail, an engine.

  1. In place of the chain type boom, which must first be removed, you need to install a propeller.
  2. The coupling needs improvement. To carry out this process, you should replace the spring and grind out a cup whose parameter will be slightly smaller.
  3. The coupling cover and the cup itself should be connected to each other using specially prepared brackets. Use washers and screws to tighten the brackets.
  4. The connecting pin must be closed with a bar and a screw.
  5. Using a channel, connect the motor to the shaft.
  6. It is important to ensure that there is a small hole between the coupling cup and the so-called support-type frame.
  7. The gearbox should be mounted on the other side of the shaft.

As soon as the shaft and screw are connected to each other, it is imperative to fill in the transmission oil. After this, you need to place the lid on top and secure it using a good quality sealant.

Learning to create a gasoline outboard motor

This product is more profitable because it has increased power. It guarantees an increase in speed, which means covering a larger area to select a good place for fishing.

  • The power is always at the same level, which cannot be said about the electric motor, which has many disadvantages and the battery takes up useful space.
  • It is allowed to use a unit from a trimmer, chainsaw, walk-behind tractor and other gasoline-based products. The choice depends on the boat, available mounts and financial capabilities.
  • A trimmer is considered the best option, since minor modifications are required. You will have to replace the line securing device and add a propeller. And the entire engine can be used on a boat.
  • In other cases, you will have to add a gearbox, propeller, shaft and make other modifications. And the process of connecting such a system, taking into account reliable operation, is not characterized by simplified actions. More serious skills are required compared to assembling and configuring an electric drive.

But this does not mean that there is no alternative. Particularly advanced fishermen have learned to use a motor cultivator. To do this, they get rid of the cutter and replace this unit with propeller blades.


In both cases considered, it is necessary to take into account that you will still have to think through the process of installing the engine on the boat. This is especially difficult in the case of an inflatable or rubber product.

Features of making your own stand for a boat motor

If you have a boat equipped with a removable motor, then the presence of a stand in such a situation is simply necessary. First of all, it is designed for convenient storage, easy maintenance and maximum comfortable transportation. Naturally, it can be purchased in a store, but as practice shows, absolutely every man can make it with his own hands. All the necessary elements for the manufacture of such a structure can be independently prepared from any type of metal or boards. In the process of processing, after all, elements made of wood will be an order of magnitude more preferable than metal ones. At the same time, wood, just like metal, can support any weight of the motor.

A similar rack can be very easily made from two-inch type boards. The support beams, located in the lower part, are strengthened to the racks of a similar structure, which are connected to each other by a cross member. It is necessary to release the large end of the bar in the direction of the outboard motor suspension. Do not forget that the finished motor stand must also have struts. They are attached to the main supports, placed on fairly strong hinges. They need to be secured in working order using two metal corners.

A shelf with sides can be created for maximum ease of use. It will be possible to place small parts, tools and fasteners that are needed at a particular moment on it. For convenience, you can also install the motor bar at a slight angle. You can assemble a stand designed for storing a boat motor in literally 1 evening. It can be used for absolutely any type of boat engine.

The key material for formation will be wood. To do this, take beams with a cross-section of 45x60 mm. As for the sizes, you need to choose the following parameters: 45x250xx350 mm. Take care to purchase washers, bolts, nuts and the necessary fastening.

First you need to plan the beams well on all sides and assemble them into grooves. As for making the support board, you only need to take hard wood. All parts must be assembled onto the mounts. To ensure high strength of the elements, it is important to lubricate them with an adhesive composition. First, you need to install the crossbars on the supports, then connect the supports with the posts. Once the glue has dried, you should install the board. Once all mechanical work is completed, the rack can be coated with paint and is now ready for use.

Motor stand

To build a stand for a boat motor with your own hands, you will need a profile and several pieces of laminated plywood, furniture bolts and wheels with a bracket:

  • the stand is welded;
  • the bracket is sawn in half;
  • welded to the stand;
  • 3 pieces of plywood 15 mm thick are painted and attached, tightened with bolts
