Ural chainsaws: general characteristics and design, main faults, review of popular models

Chainsaws Ural – these are high-quality tools for sawing wood and processing it. The manufacturer created such models for felling forests, so initially they were not familiar to modern farmers. But over time, these saws have firmly entered private life and are used for collecting firewood, processing building materials and other purposes.

The design of the Ural chainsaw is simple and straightforward. Its heart is a durable carburetor and two-stroke engine. Comfortable handles make it easy to hold the tool. Light weight and small dimensions made it possible to work with the saw even at home.

Benefits of the tool

  • High performance.
  • Low weight, compact.
  • Built-in gearbox that turns the tire 90 degrees.
  • A hydraulic wedge that allows you to cut trees in the desired direction.
  • Technology for automatic supply of lubrication to the chain.

Each product comes with an instruction manual. You can also use various attachments, pumps, and discs with saws.

How to properly break in a new Ural chainsaw?

This procedure is required for every new tool or repaired saw. By running in, the suitability of the product is increased and maximum engine performance can be achieved.

  1. Fill the saw tanks with oil and gasoline mixture.
  2. Place the chainsaw on a flat surface and start it.
  3. Let it work for 10 minutes (you can cut small branches).
  4. Turn off the engine, wait a while: it should cool down.
  5. Repeat the procedure.

During break-in you need to use one tank of fuel mixture. After this, all structural elements will be ready for normal operation and will rub against each other.

URAL chainsaw device

Like most chainsaws, the Ural has a single-cylinder two-stroke engine. The developers tried to maximize efficiency and reduce dimensions. The result is a power of 5 hp. With. (3.68 kW) with a fuel consumption of 0.6 liters per kW hour. At the same time, the tank capacity is 1.6 liters, i.e. one refill is enough for an hour of continuous operation. The saw element is the bar. Equipped with a gearbox and rotates 90 degrees. Automatic lubrication and anti-vibration frame increase the convenience and safety of work. Another convenient option is a hydrocline, which makes it easier to fell trees in a certain direction;

The case is made of durable plastic that is resistant to shock and temperature changes. The handles are located at the top, which makes work easier in winter and allows you to saw through a thick layer of snow.

The Ural chainsaw combines quality and reasonable price

To expand the functionality, you can additionally purchase attachments, discs, pumps and other devices for highly professional operations or optimization of work.

Examples of attachments for chainsaws:

  • cutter (cylindrical cutter for removing bark and the top layer of sapwood);

Adjusting the Ural chainsaw carburetor

If the tool does not start or does not work well, you need to clean and adjust the operation of its carburetor. You can adjust the carburetor on a Ural chainsaw with your own hands. To do this, you first need to clean the spark plug.

Setting up the Ural chainsaw carburetor at idle speed

  1. Start the tool and warm it up at medium speed.
  2. Find the idle speed screw and turn it to set the minimum stable speed.
  3. If the engine starts to smoke, partially tighten screw 1.
  4. Partially turn the idle speed screw, set the speed to minimum.
  5. After this, check the quality of the saw. If the engine picks up speed quickly, the adjustment was successful. If the engine stalls or slows down, screw 1 is turned out again. Next, adjust the idle speed screw and secure its position.

Setting for maximum power

It is done after 25 hours of running in the saw and after adjusting the idle speeds.

  1. Use screw 2, turning it in one direction or the other.
  2. When screwing, the power increases; when unscrewing, it decreases.
  3. After each adjustment step, the saw must be checked by sawing small wood.

Carburetor settings

When leaving the factory, the initial carburetor adjustment has already been made. These characteristics are maintained for quite a long time when the chainsaw is operating. If they are out of order or you need to reconfigure the chainsaw to a different operating mode, you will need a set of keys and a screwdriver.

Homemade chainsaws Ural

From these universal devices you can make various homemade products. Let's consider in what areas the tool can be used and what can be made from it.

  • Do-it-yourself boat motor from a Ural chainsaw. The torque of the saw motor must be transferred to the boat propeller. A durable adapter is installed between the drive gear and the propeller shaft.
  • Tricycle. The task is to use the power of the motor on the wheels of the car, for which you need to install an old bicycle chain. The basis of the device is a frame to which three wheels and a steering wheel are attached.
  • Homemade sawmill from a Ural chainsaw. A guide should be made along which the frame with the saw attached will move. The structure can be equipped with lifting fasteners that will fix the thickness of the lumber.
  • Snowmobile made from a chainsaw Ural. You will need to make a frame with shock-absorbing suspension, steering wheel, gas and clutch. A gear is installed on the drive shaft, the size of which is slightly larger than the saw sprockets.
  • Motor drill from chainsaw Ural. The saw motor is connected to the structure using a worm gearbox. You also need to connect the auger.

  • Karting. A more complex device that requires the manufacture of a durable frame, seat, steering wheel, and wheels. They use a saw motor that will rotate the wheels and power the tool.

Oil

According to the classification of the American Petroleum Institute (API), the South American Petroleum Institute, oil for 2-stroke engines is classified as API-TB, in addition there are oils of the API-TC class, unfortunately they are designed to work with less load than most of our common chainsaws. If you take the power class according to the systematization of the Japan Automobile Standards Organization (JASO), then focus on the JASO- and JASO FD classes (see Table 1 below.). Do not under any circumstances use oils for four-stroke engines! Remember that in a two-stroke engine the oil must burn one hundred percent, which means it is better to take synthetic oil, as it produces less smoke and combustion residues. If you fill your chainsaw with oil for four-stroke engines, which will not burn completely and carbon deposits will appear upon completion, then your CPG will fail. The best thing to guide you when choosing oil for a chainsaw is the instructions for it.

Malfunctions and repairs

Breakdowns can often occur when working with a saw. To fix them, you don’t have to run to a specialist. Some problems can be fixed by yourself. To do this, you first need to recognize the cause of the breakdown, and then follow the instructions. In some cases, additional spare parts will be needed.

Chainsaw Ural: no spark

In this case, one of the following problems may occur:

  • the spark plug is broken, you need to try to clean it or replace it;
  • There is too much oil in the fuel mixture, causing it to settle on the walls of the carburetor. You need to change the mixture and clean the carburetor.

Ural chainsaw does not start

If the chain is not lubricated, this breakdown may occur. You need to inspect the oil reservoir. Cracks or holes may have formed in it. It is better to replace it with a new tank.

Advantages

The main advantages of the Ural Electron 2 chainsaw include:

  • high power among competing chainsaws;
  • simple adjustment of the tool after final assembly out of the box, which the average man can handle;
  • the presence of detailed operating instructions with detailed diagrams of all components and the structure of the motor;

Malfunctions of Ural chainsaws and their elimination

The most typical faults for Ural chainsaws are:

  • the saw does not start (the reason is the lack of fuel, its incorrect proportion, low quality gasoline);
  • there is strong vibration (the reason is loosening of the leading parts of the saw, too intense use);
  • there is no spark, the saw does not start (inspect the spark plug, it may have carbon deposits on it or the spark plug needs to be replaced);
  • There is a large consumption of fuel materials - gasoline and oil (time to change the fuel filter).

The sound of a working saw is smooth, without extraneous noise or knocking.

If noticeable extraneous noise appears, you should pay attention to the engine and cylinder, piston.
