Additionally, it is worth noting that the saw uses an air-cooled two-stroke engine. CD type ignition system (condenser). The type of spark plugs used is Champion RCJ7Y , with an electrode distance of 0.5 mm. It is recommended to use high-octane unleaded gasoline and mix it with oil in a ratio of 1:50. Read about what kind of gasoline to put into your saw here.

The noise level generated during operation is 98-108 dB - a good indicator, slightly lower than that of competitors. The weight parameter in the table is indicated without a bar, chain and filling fluids - according to this characteristic, the saw significantly outperforms its competitors.

Analysis of the data provided allows us to note 3 interesting features:

  1. Husqvarna 142 has sufficient power for a household chainsaw, and is approximately 20% less than the average power of professional saws from the same manufacturer.
  2. The cutting set is standard for Husqvarna and if replacement is necessary, it will not lead to a long search or wait.
  3. The manufacturer focuses on the undemanding quality of gasoline, without specifying the minimum acceptable octane number. Therefore, the conclusion at the first step of the review is as follows: the characteristics of the Husqvarna 142 chainsaw are suitable not only for work in the country, but also for semi-professional use.

Tools

Chainsaws are used for cutting and further processing of wood. They will be useful to owners of private plots, lumberjacks and builders. Husqvarna offers powerful professional equipment and models for everyday use.

Table of contents:

General characteristics of chainsaws

A chainsaw is a convenient tool for cutting wood.

The machine structure consists of a chain, a bar and a sprocket.

Depending on the strength and duration of work, they are divided into 3 groups:

  • Household tools are designed for cutting small logs. The total duration of their work is 40 - 60 minutes per day. This type of saw is optimal for beautifying the territory of a private home or helping with repairs.
  • Semi-professional chainsaws are an intermediate option in terms of power and price. They can work 3 – 4 hours a day.
  • Farm chainsaws provide 12 – 15 hours of work per day. Models are more balanced and equipped with increased vibration protection. Offers high performance and is suitable for daily workloads.

When the chainsaw comes into contact with a tree, a strong impact occurs. The issue of reverse push is solved by automatically stopping the chain. For this purpose, the chainsaw has an inertial brake.

An important feature of the tool is the presence of a vibration reduction system. There are not enough rubber seals between the body and the handle of the chainsaw. Working for a long time puts a lot of stress on your hands and joints. A weight distribution system is preferable. The motor block is separated from the handle block and the fuel tank.

It is important not to overload the chainsaw and systematically check the saw set. Then the equipment will last a long time.

If you have no experience working with a chainsaw, give preference to a lightweight model. For example, the Husqvarna 142e saw. To test the saw, hold it in your hands for a few minutes.

And has the following technical indicators:

  • The size of the cylinder is 40.2 cm³.
  • Motor power 1.9 kW.
  • Engine speed at maximum load is 9000 units/min.
  • Fuel tank volume 0.41 l.
  • Oil tank 0.2 l.
  • Sound level over 95 dB.
  • Noise indicator 118 dB.
  • The vibration force of the front handle is 4.8 m/s.
  • Rear handle vibration 6.5 m/s.
  • The chain pitch is 0.83 cm.
  • The weight of the equipment is 4.6 kg.
  • The desired length for tires is 33 – 38 cm.

Consumers note a number of advantages of the Husqvarna 142e chainsaw:

  • Curved front handle. It is easy to grip and provides a secure grip on the hand.
  • The narrow body and low weight make the model easy to use.

User manual

Before using the Husqvarna 142e, please read its operating instructions:

  • When transporting the chainsaw, disconnect the ignition to prevent unwanted starting.
  • Wear specialized protective clothing and footwear.
  • Make sure there are no people or animals within 10 meters of the work area.
  • Hold the chainsaw firmly with both hands.

  • Do not press down on the saw at the end of the sawing process. This can lead to loss of balance after finishing the cut.
  • Carry out regular maintenance of the tool.
  • Mix fuel outdoors away from flammable materials.

User manual

This is the only lifesaver in many situations, so it is never ignored in our reviews. It doesn't look intimidating: only 32 pages, two of which are blank for personal notes. There are no traces of translation by electronic systems, but in two places there are still phrases that are a little annoying to the eye, for example, “the spark plug does not ignite.”

Almost a third of the instructions are devoted to safety precautions when working with the Husqvarna 142 chainsaw. I was pleasantly surprised by the description of techniques for working not only with trees, but also with branches: detailed diagrams of how to safely create cuts are presented. The influence of the shape of the tire end on the likelihood of rebound is explained very clearly.

The procedure for disassembling and assembling the Husqvarna 142 chainsaw is described in detail with drawing explanations. In general, the operating instructions for the Husqvarna 142 chainsaw are convenient and contain the minimum necessary knowledge for operation and repair. You can download the operating instructions for the Husqvarna 142 chainsaw on the page of our website - chainsaw instructions.

Controls

Here in Husqvarna 142 is the classic minimum. They are represented by a switch that can be set to On or Off, a choke position lever that can be in one of three positions, and a combined throttle position control lever with a stopper.

Only the “suction” requires explanation. Between the fixed positions of the open and closed damper, there is a third stable position, corresponding to the half-open damper of the chainsaw carburetor. It is used when turning on a cold engine after several jerks with the starter with the throttle closed.

Husqvarna 142 does not have a primer. Primary fuel pumping is carried out using the starter handle. Well, the fewer nodes, the fewer breakdowns!

Operating the saw

We tested the chainsaw in operation and now we will share our experience with you, it turned out to be a kind of review.

First of all, we fill the tool with the liquids necessary for work: fuel and oil for lubricating the chain.

The fuel mixture is prepared on the basis of AI-92 gasoline and Husqvarna HP branded two-stroke oil in a ratio of 50 to 1. It is interesting to note that if oil added in the specified ratio is not available, the manufacturer allows the short-term use of high-quality oil diluted with gasoline in a ratio of 33 to 1.

We operated the Husqvarna 142 for about an hour. It is ideal as a household chainsaw: almost complete absence of vibrations in the hands, a completely bearable noise level and, most importantly, excellent cutting abilities.

It is interesting to note that if oil added in the specified ratio is not available, the manufacturer allows the short-term use of high-quality oil diluted with gasoline in a ratio of 33 to 1.

Fresh pine and dry birch trunks with a diameter of 26 cm were repeatedly sawed in an average of 7 s each. The dry oak yielded a little slower; It took approximately 14 seconds to cut a log with a diameter of 24 cm.

The cutting speed is slightly lower than that of the professional chainsaws that we tested, but these are saws of a different order of cost. Husqvarna 142 is not afraid of working at full power; high speeds are even recommended in the instructions. The brake works perfectly - the chain stops instantly.

Then an analysis was made of reviews from Husqvarna 142 owners on three specialized forums. We took into account only those publications whose authors have been registered for a long time and do not use a chainsaw professionally, i.e. not every day for several years.

The results of the analysis were not surprising and are briefly as follows: the piston group is reliable, the tire is strong, the saw is comfortable and unpretentious to fuel. Failures do occur infrequently, but are caused by the deadline for replacing consumables or errors in preparing the fuel mixture.

You can buy a protective case separately.

Preparing the chainsaw for work

Before commissioning, the tool must be properly prepared:

  1. The chainsaw is assembled into a single structure.
  2. The headset is installed and the chain is removed.
  3. The pollen is filled with oil and a pre-prepared fuel mixture.
  4. The tool starts. as described in the manual.
  5. The serviceability of the brake system is checked immediately.
  6. Monitor the oil supply to the circuit.
  7. The idle speed is adjustable.

The saw starts up, all systems are engaged and working. you need to break the chainsaw. How to get a Husqvarna

240, the video will tell and show.

Works in

The breakthrough period lasts about 10 hours. During this period, the gas tool operates in soft mode without increasing the load. The purpose of the breakdown. grinding all moving parts of the chainsaw. If you skip the mileage and immediately put maximum load on the chainsaw, the likelihood of the piston jamming will increase sharply, which can lead to engine failure.

How to prepare a fuel mixture

To prepare a flammable mixture, the manufacturer recommends taking:

  • high-quality gasoline with an octane number of at least 90 and no more than 93;
  • Husqvarna original two-stroke engine oil.

The ratio of gasoline to the original two-stroke oil is 50/1 (it is about 2%), in the case of using motor oils from other manufacturers (JASO FB / ISO EGB oil is allowed), the ratio will be approximately 3%. 33/1.

It is recommended to use original chain oils of special viscosity as chain oil.

Maintenance of the Husqvarna 240 chainsaw

To ensure the long life of the chainsaw, the owner of the equipment must regularly perform maintenance work, namely:

  • fuel and oil;
  • chain sharpening;
  • cleaning the instrument from contamination;
  • air filter maintenance;
  • spark plug maintenance;

  • carbohydrate regulation
  • checking the condition of the brake system;
  • cleaning oil pipes;
  • sprocket replacement;
  • service manual.

Owners of new equipment ask the following questions:

  • how to remove the carburetor from a Husqvarna 240 chainsaw;
  • How to adjust the carburetor on a Husqvarna 240 chainsaw yourself.

Carbon regulation

After a breakdown, some chainsaw owners adjusted the carburetor. It consists of several stages:

  1. Start the saw and turn the screws fully to adjust high and low speed. Rotate 1.5 turns;
  2. Warm up the saw for about 10 minutes. Set the idle speed to the idle screw. With the correct settings, the chain will not move along the bus in standby mode;
  3. Check dust for acceleration. When you press the accelerator, the speed should increase quickly.

Chainsaw malfunctions

We invite you to familiarize yourself with the problems inherent in Husqvarna chainsaws.

Chainsaw

Husqvarna won't start or won't start and immediately lags when booting. Causes:

  • from fuel;
  • low quality fuel mixture;
  • clogged filter;
  • soaked, burned, lit a candle;
  • problem with the ignition system;
  • the carburetor is not adjusted;
  • the piston cylinder is jammed;
  • wear of the piston group.

During operation, the tool vibrates strongly:

  • loose fastenings;
  • vibration damping elements are free;
  • imbalance.

The consumption of the fuel mixture has increased sharply:

The air filter is dirty and needs to be replaced.

The chain continues to rotate in standby mode:

  • the carburetor is not adjusted;
  • piston wear.

The saw becomes very hot during operation:

The spark arrester has failed.

We invite you to watch the Husqvarna 240 chainsaw in action in the video.

Carburetor adjustment

Carburetor adjustment is required when weather conditions and fuel quality change. The symptoms for which it is necessary are the following: the chain spins at idle, the chainsaw stalls when you press the gas, does not develop speed, and greatly slows down when cutting.

To adjust the carburetor on a Husqvarna 142 chainsaw with your own hands, you need appropriate experience, as well as tools, because It is on these saws that special “secret” type screws are used, to which only branded screwdrivers are suitable.

On our website, we have already looked in detail at how to adjust the carburetor on Husqvarna chainsaws, in the same article you will find information on where to buy those special screwdrivers.

We also suggest watching an interesting video about setup

How to adjust the carburetor of a Husqvarna 142 chainsaw?

If the Husqvarna 142 chainsaw does not start at all, or starts and stalls, then most likely it needs carburetor adjustment. This procedure is performed in the same order as with other chainsaws. However, it should be remembered that due to the design features of the Husqvarna 142 chainsaw, changes in the operation of its motor will not be noticeable immediately, but 5–10 seconds after turning the adjusting screws. Immediately before setting up the carburetor with your own hands, you need to remove the air filter and check it for blockages. If the filter is completely clean, then you need to proceed to adjusting the saw. Setting up the carburetor of the Husqvarna 142 chainsaw is as follows:

  1. Set the chainsaw to factory settings with the engine turned off - they are indicated in the operating instructions for the tool;
  2. Start the engine and wait a few minutes;
  3. Rotate screw “L” clockwise to find the position at which the engine reaches maximum speed. Then turn the screw ¼ turn counterclockwise. If after this the saw chain begins to rotate, then slowly turn the screw “T” until the chain stops moving;
  4. Next, the engine operation is adjusted at maximum speed. To do this, connect a tachometer to the running saw and squeeze the gas trigger all the way. Look at the tachometer scale - if the device shows more revolutions than the manufacturer recommends, then start turning the “H” screw counterclockwise until the tachometer shows the normal number of revolutions.

Do-it-yourself troubleshooting and repairs

Malfunctions are simple if they do not require disassembling the chainsaw to eliminate them. For Husqvarna 142, the methods for finding them, as well as eliminating them, are no different: it all comes down to checking the condition of the spark plug, the fuel level in the tank, etc.

If easily correctable malfunctions occur, it is necessary to remove individual components, replace or repair them, and then reassemble the Husqvarna 142 chainsaw. This is how the shock absorbers or carburetor are replaced and the starter is repaired.

If the chain is not lubricated, we recommend watching a video that discusses in detail the lubrication system, its disassembly and reassembly.

If complex faults occur, complete disassembly is necessary. The design of the Husqvarna 142 chainsaw is not complicated, but you must be absolutely sure that for high-quality repairs you can:

  • receive drawings of the device with a description and you can do the detailing;
  • perform troubleshooting and reassembly.

Is it worth repairing the Husqvarna 142 piston group yourself? For high-quality overhauls, you must have at least precise tools - a micrometer and a bore gauge - which can cost you more than spare parts.

If you decide to do a major overhaul, we recommend watching a video that sequentially shows how to disassemble the Husqvarna 142, and our article on repairing Husqvarna chainsaws.

Comparison with analogues

How is it different from Husqvarna 137

Practically nothing, 142 is an updated model, it has a slightly larger engine capacity of 40 versus 36, and accordingly the power differs slightly - 1.64 hp. / 2.2 kW; The 137 model has a different capacity of the fuel and oil tanks, 419 and 200 ml, respectively. The weight is the same - 4.6 kg. Read more in an interesting review about the Husqvarna 137 model chainsaw.

What to choose: Husqvarna 142 or Shtil 230

Here everyone decides for himself, some prefer the tools of the Stihl company, others of the Husqvarna company. These are also 2 tools from different segments: Shtil 230 - semi-professional level, Husqvarna 142 - household. The characteristics of the tools are approximately the same. But in terms of reliability, of course, the German (Stil) is ahead, but the price tag will be about 1.5 times higher. We also recommend reading the review of the Stihl MS 230 chainsaw.
