How to Dilute Gasoline for a Ural Chainsaw

We found a domestic Ural chainsaw in the garage. My husband took it apart, cleaned it, says it’s like new and should work. What kind of oil to pour into the Urals to try to turn it on. What kind of gasoline will this chainsaw work optimally on?

The Ural chainsaw is considered a descendant of the Druzhba chainsaw - a reliable and worthy unit. If adjusted well and used regularly, such a saw almost always shows stable operation.

As for gasoline, previously AI-76 grade was poured into such a chainsaw, but now A-80 can be poured. As for oil, you can use domestic M8-B or any other imported oil for a two-stroke engine. Oil should be added to gasoline in a ratio of 1:25.

First of all, read the operating instructions for your domestic chainsaw.

What kind of oil and in what proportions, a whole chapter of instructions is devoted to this topic.

You write about the Ural chainsaw; the best option would be Avtol (this is M-8B motor oil).

If you mean oil for preparing a fuel mixture for a chainsaw, then the proportions are 1:20 (oil to gasoline).

The same oil can also be poured into the chainsaw gearbox.

Since the Ural chainsaw is a descendant of the Soviet Druzhba chainsaw, and Avtol (M8-B oil) was popular during the Soviet Union (recommended for use in GAZ, ZIL, etc. cars, including Ural ), then it is considered the best option for such a chainsaw, plus, the price is completely affordable.

When purchasing oil, pay attention to the labeling; GOST must be indicated there.

GOST for this oil is GOST 10541-78.

M-12TPU, MGD-14M, etc. oils are also suitable, these are all domestic oils, you can also use imported ones, but domestic ones are better.

Which chainsaw oil to choose?

In order for the chainsaw to work for a long time and without breakdowns, you should strictly adhere to the manufacturer’s advice and recommendations. Repairing the Ural chainsaw has already been discussed earlier. The problems were a clogged air filter and adjusting the chainsaw jets.

Little attention was paid to the correct preparation of fuel for a chainsaw, since it can also cause breakdowns or problems in the operation of this gas-powered tool.

It is better to use the oil for chainsaws that is recommended by the manufacturer. First of all, this is two-stroke oil, the ratio of which to 76 grade gasoline should not be more than 4%.

In this case, the proportions of oil and gasoline for a chainsaw should be approximately 1:25. But this value is true only for chainsaws of a domestic manufacturer and the AI-76 gasoline used for their operation.

Proportion of oil and gasoline for a chainsaw

In the case of foreign-made chainsaws, things are somewhat different.

To use foreign chainsaws, as a rule, gasoline of no lower than 92-95 grade is used. In addition, a special branded oil from the manufacturer is used for it. In this case, most often, the proportion of oil and gasoline is not 1:25, but 1:40.

To lubricate the chainsaw chain, any Zhiguli oil is suitable. Many are also used for these purposes and testing, but here you must act at your own peril and risk, since it is not recommended to use it for chain lubrication due to rapid oxidation.

To correctly determine the proportions of oil and gasoline for a chainsaw, you can use special measuring cans. They make it possible to very quickly prepare fuel of the desired consistency.

To refuel a chainsaw, you should use only oil that meets all the requirements and operating conditions of a two-stroke engine. Only in this case there will be no need to repair the Taiga chainsaw or any other.

Step-by-step instructions for refueling

If you want to refuel your chainsaw, you need to follow a simple algorithm:

  1. Prepare fuel in the recommended proportion of gasoline and oil for two-stroke chainsaws.
  2. Prepare the saw for refueling by clearing its surface of sawdust and shavings.
  3. Place the saw on a flat, stable stand with the reservoir neck facing up.
  4. Carefully place a small funnel (plastic or metal, resistant to fuels and lubricants, easily purchased at an auto supply store) into the open neck of the tank.
  5. Carefully pour fuel into the tank, avoiding overflow. It is unacceptable to pour under the lid - this will lead to splashing out while screwing the lid!
  6. Close the lid of the fuel tank
  7. Replace chain lube (required!)
  8. Test run the engine at idle speed.

What are the characteristics of a chainsaw?

If you have a dacha or a rural house, you need a chainsaw. How to dilute gasoline for a chainsaw? For gardening needs, a household chainsaw is completely sufficient. Its power is small, but it is completely sufficient for removing old tree branches, cutting firewood and boards. This saw does not have a very huge weight and size. If you need to cut down trees on your property or are planning construction work, it is better to purchase a semi-professional chainsaw. Its operating period should not exceed 8 hours per day. The professional chainsaw has the highest power and can work for up to 16 hours at a time. Durable materials are used to produce such saws, and implementation requires certain abilities. Professional chainsaws are used for felling wood on an industrial scale and for other similar work.

All of these types of saws vary in both power and weight. If you are not planning large permanent work, it is better to limit yourself to a household chainsaw, which weighs much less and is therefore easier to handle. Professional saws, on the contrary, have a power of up to 6 kW and, accordingly, enormous weight. How to dilute gasoline for a chainsaw? Choice of oil. The choice of such a saw depends on the thickness and strength of the material being cut.

Lubrication system malfunctions and ways to eliminate them

The main malfunctions of the oil supply system to a chainsaw can be divided into two main types: these are general malfunctions inherent in all chainsaws, and individual ones, which can vary depending on the type of pump and worm gearbox installed on a particular model. Let's start sorting out the faults in order.

READ Chainsaw Husqvarna 240 E Video

Signs of a malfunction of the lubrication system, checking its performance

  • The chainsaw chain is dry and has a pale tint without shine.
  • The chain stretches relatively quickly.
  • The tire is very hot and may even partially melt the paint.
  • The oil from the tank practically does not decrease.
  • Efficiency of a sharp section of a chain

All these signs indicate that the lubrication process is not normal. To check the oil supply to the lubrication system, remove the side guide of the chainsaw and start it. Next, you need to slightly increase the speed, keeping an eye on the end of the oil line. If oil has entered, there is likely not enough oil to provide proper lubrication and you will need to clean or replace the filter and adjust the flow if possible. If this does not happen, the problem is more serious and requires further diagnosis.

There is a way to check the oil supply without removing the tires. To do this, point the end of the bar towards the side, for example, freshly cut stones on the cut side and maximize speed, while trying to keep the end of the bar no more than 10 cm away from the cutlet. If greasy spots begin to appear on its surface, then oil is supplied.

Problem solving

Once it has been determined that no oil is being supplied, further diagnosis is only possible if the oil system is completely removed. Of course, replacing filters helps in some situations, but this is very rare.

The most common faults

  1. Broken oil hose. Sometimes this can be found during a visual inspection. The problem is solved by replacing the faulty part.
  2. Missing threads on the oil pump shaft will help replace it.
  3. Defective threads on the pump drive can also be eliminated by installing a new part.
  4. There is no main shaft corkscrew (this is true for some instrument models, such as Homelite). You can fix this by installing a corkscrew that matches the diameter of the carnation in place of the original corkscrew, cutting it to the required length.
  5. Lock track. It can be removed by blowing with compressed air or mechanically using a wire of the appropriate diameter.
  6. The filter element is clogged.
  7. Stihl MS 180, the pump of which cannot be disconnected, often clogs. You can try flushing with pure gasoline if that doesn't help replace it.
  8. Chinese chainsaws (Gypsies) often have grooves cut out on the main gear, through which it is transmitted to the power of the star.

Malfunction of the individual lubrication system Stihl MS 180

Due to the fact that the Stihl MS 180 is one of the most common models of chainsaws, I would like to dwell on one of its malfunctions and describe how to fix it without replacing parts.

Why is oil in a saw important?

It doesn’t matter which chainsaw is powered by a gasoline engine. how to dilute gasoline with dilute gasoline for a chainsaw. How to pour gasoline into a chainsaw 1. How to dilute gasoline for where to buy spare parts for how to dilute gasoline for a chainsaw?. Chainsaws use a two-stroke engine, and the role of the gearbox is played by a single-stage chain transmission that drives the chain. In two-stroke engines, the gasoline-oil mixture is poured directly into the tank. To make a gasoline-oil mixture, use gasoline with an octane rating of 90 or higher. In our criteria, this is A92 or AI92 gasoline. It is better not to use 95, because it can be produced from 92 using additives and will lose its characteristics after some time. Gasoline must be used as fresh as possible, as it polymerizes over time, especially in the light. As a result, carbon deposits appear in the combustion chamber.

How to prepare the fuel mixture?

Many experts and manufacturers do not recommend storing the prepared mixture for a long time. Therefore, you should not prepare a lot of fuel at once in reserve if it will not be used up in the next 30 days. Store fuel in the shade at moderate temperatures.

For preparation, you need measuring containers, which are sometimes included in the kit. If not, for dosage use any available container with a precisely known container for gasoline, glasses, syringes, jars and canisters with a measuring scale.

The syringe is very convenient during refilling and can serve as an excellent measuring container for oil.

Cooking video

The video shows a simple example of how you can use available containers for dosing. The author demonstrates how to make a tool for preparing the mixture from a container of household chemicals that everyone has in the house.

All chainsaws use unleaded gasoline with an octane rating of at least 90. That is, AI-92, AI-95, AI-98. Moreover, the most common and suitable option is AI-92 . Gasoline with octane ratings of 95 and 98 is recommended in cases where the engine operates primarily at high speeds. We also recommend reading in more detail about choosing gasoline.

An example of preparing 1 liter of mixture in a ratio of 1:50.

  1. The container is filled to about half (0.4-0.6 l) with gasoline.
  2. Pour 20 ml of oil into a clean liter container.
  3. Close the lid and shake the fuel until it becomes uniform in color.
  4. Gasoline is added to a liter, the cap is screwed on, and the container is turned over several times.

Gasoline that has already been diluted with oil mixes with pure gasoline that has been added very easily, so there is no need to mix too much again.

Oils are colored in different colors, red or green. Therefore, by the homogeneity of the color of the mixture or clots of different colors, it is clearly visible whether the oil has been mixed or not.

When oil is overfilled, the engine smokes. But smoking immediately after a cold start in most cases is characteristic of an unheated engine. After several minutes of operation and heating of the combustion chamber, the smoke disappears.

In what proportions should the liquids be mixed?

The proportions of gasoline-oil consistency for each brand of saw are determined by the manufacturer. How to dilute gasoline for (Ural, friendship, what oil to use for a chainsaw, how to dilute gasoline for a chainsaw? Gasoline with a high octane number is used as fuel for a chainsaw: ai-92 or ai-95. The more common proportion is 1:50, the best for saws with a power above 1.5 kW. But some manufacturers may focus on other proportions: Chinese - 1:25, Partner - 1:40. For chainsaws with a power of less than 1.5 kW, Stihl and Husqvarna companies recommend a ratio of 25 ml of oil per 1 liter of gasoline .

Carburetor adjustment

Adjusting the idle speed of the chainsaw engine.

The adjustment is made by changing the quality and quantity of the combustible mixture entering the engine cylinder. The amount of mixture is changed by screw 3 (Figure 1), which limits the rotation of the throttle valve control lever 1 towards its closing. The quality of the mixture is changed with screw 1 (Figure 2) of the carburetor. When adjusting engine idle speed, you should be guided by the following requirements:

a) The engine should idle steadily and the saw chain should not move along the bar.

b) There should be no strong smoke when the engine is running.

c) The engine should have good throttle response, that is, when the throttle control lever is pressed sharply, it should quickly gain speed.

d) It is recommended to adjust the idle speed in the following sequence: - start the engine and warm it up at low and medium speeds. Use screw 3 (Figure 1) to set the minimum stable speed at which the saw chain does not move along the bar. If the engine smokes heavily (a sign of an excessively rich mixture), then partially tighten screw 1 of the carburetor. At the same time, the engine speed will increase and the exhaust smoke will decrease; — after this, you should again set the minimum, stable engine speed by partially unscrewing screw 3 (Figure 1); — after this adjustment, it is necessary to check the engine response. To do this, sharply press the throttle control lever for 2-3 seconds until it stops. In this case, the engine should quickly gain momentum. If the engine stalls or has a “drop” in power, that is, it slowly picks up speed (lean mixture), then it is necessary to partially unscrew screw 1 of the carburetor. Engine speed will decrease. To increase the idle speed, screw 3 must be partially tightened. Check engine response again; — upon completion of the adjustment, secure screw 3 with locknuts 2 (Figure 1).

4.5.2 Adjusting the engine for maximum power

This adjustment should be made after a 25-hour run-in of the chainsaw in operation and after adjusting the engine idle speed. The adjustment is made with screw 2 (Figure 2) of the carburetor, by making the combustible mixture leaner or richer at engine operating mode. When the screw is partially screwed in, the mixture becomes lean; when unscrewed, it becomes richer. The most advantageous position of the carburetor screw 2 is determined experimentally by checking the operation of the chainsaw when sawing wood. In this case, you should be guided by the following requirements for the operation of a chainsaw.

Petrol

Gasoline comes with an octane number no less than AI92. There is an option to also fill in AI95, alas, its quality at our gas stations is not civilized enough, if you do not know how to use 95, then it is still better to take AI92 gasoline to dilute gasoline in a chainsaw. It also makes no sense to take gasoline that has been sitting for a long time in a canister, tank or other container. Gasoline for making fuel into a chainsaw must be fresh, otherwise it loses its characteristics, namely the octane number, and if you run the chainsaw on such fuel, it will not produce a workable version of power. And the saddest thing in this case is that the failure of a chainsaw due to poor fuel is considered a non-warranty case and leads to expensive repairs. Sometimes it's easier to buy a new chainsaw than to repair it after a breakdown!

Oil

According to the classification of the American Petroleum Institute (API), the South American Petroleum Institute, oil for 2-stroke engines is classified as API-TB, in addition there are oils of the API-TC class, unfortunately they are designed to work with less load than most of our common chainsaws. If you take the power class according to the systematization of the Japan Automobile Standards Organization (JASO), then focus on the JASO- and JASO FD classes (see Table 1 below.). Do not under any circumstances use oils for four-stroke engines! Remember that in a two-stroke engine the oil must burn one hundred percent, which means it is better to take synthetic oil, as it produces less smoke and combustion residues. If you fill your chainsaw with oil for four-stroke engines, which will not burn completely and carbon deposits will appear upon completion, then your CPG will fail. The best thing to guide you when choosing oil for a chainsaw is the instructions for it.

How to prepare a fuel mixture for Ural 2T Electron

How much gasoline and oil is required to prepare a high-quality mixture for the Ural 2T Electron? Previously, the fuel mixture was prepared from AI-72 gasoline and motor oil for two-stroke engines. Today, 72-grade gasoline is replaced by 92-grade gasoline (72 has been discontinued), any oil for 2-stroke engines can be used. During the break-in period, the fuel mixture is prepared in the following ratio: 1/15. The carburetor is initially set for break-in, where more enriched fuel is used. After this is done, it is necessary to adjust the carburetor again, setting it to less enriched fuel with an oil to gasoline ratio of 20/1.

Break-in period

The testing of the Urals is carried out in 2 stages:

  1. Four full tanks of rich fuel mixture burn out at idle.
  2. The next day and for 25 hours, the chainsaw is run in with minimal loads.
  3. At the end of the break-in period, the oil in the crankcase is changed, and the carburetor is adjusted to the new mode.

Proportions

When preparing a fuel mixture of gasoline and chainsaw oil, be sure to check the manufacturer's recommendations. Why is it so important to follow these recommended proportions? If the amount of oil in gasoline is small, the cylinder and piston will heat up and, accordingly, scuffing will occur, which means failure of the CPG and repair. If there is a lot of oil in gasoline, then this is carbon deposits and again failure. Each manufacturer has its own recommendations on proportions (see Table 2 below). Try not to store the finished mixture for more than a month. Do not store it in direct sunlight or open. Avoid ingress of water and dust - this will lead to carburetor failure, since the fuel filter is often not able to completely clean the fuel.

Conclusion

Modern chainsaws have a reliable supply of chain oil, if it fails there is no need to operate the chainsaw to avoid further damage. It is better to troubleshoot the lubrication system by contacting a service center or a specialist with repair experience; this guarantees the quality of the final result.
