Engine on the Ural walk-behind tractor: features of installing a Chinese Lifan engine with right rotation. How to replace the device on UMZ-5B?

Motoblock "Ural"

Motoblocks "Ural-UMP-5V" first began to be sold in the country just before its global redistribution at the dawn of the 90s of the last century. Since many people needed walk-behind tractors as a convenient and cheap technical tool, it became very popular in the USSR. In just a few years, its sales reached 150 thousand units. The optimal combination of its characteristics contributed to the popularity of the walk-behind tractor.

The developers were able to combine the high performance of the walk-behind tractor, which was achieved by a five-horsepower gasoline unit that accelerates it to a speed of 15 km/h, combined with battery power sufficient to cultivate up to 2 hectares of arable territory. In addition, the unit could transport cargo weighing up to half a ton.

The walk-behind tractor has a wide adjustable ground clearance, which allows the device to be used in different types of areas. But it is worth noting that the basic Ural model is not particularly multifunctional. It can only transport cargo and cultivate the soil. It will not be possible to mow grass, remove debris or snow using attachments with this type of equipment - such capabilities are not provided. But if you remake the design yourself, adding the necessary fastening units, you can expand its functionality.

The model is implemented according to the scheme of transferring power to the wheels via a differential. Some modifications use foreign high-power engines, but domestic options are the most popular due to the availability of spare parts, proper documentation and durability.

Attachment overview

Ural walk-behind tractors have gained great popularity due to a wide range of compatible attachments and the ability to automate many agricultural works. Now this is no longer a luxury, but simply a necessity for many farmers.

Trailer

Ural walk-behind tractors can be used to transport cargo weighing up to 350 kg. Special trailers are used for this.

The configuration of trailed equipment must be selected based on the material being transported.

  • If these are long pipes or logs, then it is necessary to use carts on four wheels.
  • If it is a bulk cargo, then it is better to use dump truck options with folding sides.
  • If it is hay or something bulky, then the best option would be a model with high sides.

Characteristics

Let's give some data on the walk-behind tractor.

  • walk-behind tractor dimensions: 1560/790/1050 mm;
  • ground clearance 270 mm;
  • cylinder volume 0.475 l;
  • weight – 125 kg;
  • with a fuel tank volume of 6 liters, fuel consumption is less than two liters of gasoline;
  • four-stroke engine with right rotation, single-cylinder, uses gasoline with any octane number, responds well to gas;
  • cooled by air;
  • The battery shows high charge levels.

Advantages of the Ural walk-behind tractor:

  • when the weight of the unit is more than a hundredweight, it is not necessary to put additional pressure on the handles with its own weight, which makes cultivating the land easier;
  • there are numerous possibilities for independent improvements and upgrades of the design;
  • high resource indicators of the engine;
  • The air filter does not require replacement of gaskets.

However, the following disadvantages were also noted:

  • frequent lubricant leaks at the engine/gearbox joints;
  • you have to check the oil level frequently;
  • the gas distribution mechanism leads to increased consumption of gasoline and motor oils due to design features;
  • not recommended for long trips with cargo (low speed).

The UMZ-5B engines and its variant UMZ-5DU-B have the following characteristics:

  • four-stroke, power up to 5.4 l. With. (more than 3.5 kW);
  • equipped with a two-stage gearbox with a gear ratio of 1 to 6 or 1 to 2.91;
  • one cylinder;
  • forced cooling.

The UMZ-5DU-B model is distinguished by the fact that its gearbox is single-stage and its gear ratio is 1 to 6, and a ratchet is not installed on the gearbox shaft.

As an alternative to Ural engines, if there is a need to replace them, they often choose imported Chinese products (Lifan).

Lifan was founded in the early 90s of the twentieth century and today is one of our most famous large companies in the automotive market. In addition to engines, Lifan also produces other motor vehicles that have an optimal price-quality ratio. The products are certified, and each product must be accompanied by a technical passport and operating instructions.

Lifan presents different types of engines on the Russian market. One of the most important characteristics when choosing an engine is the mounting dimensions, since they do not always comply with Russian standards.

Another important characteristic is engine power, since in most cases Lifan engines have 6.5 liters. With. versus 5 l. With. at Ural.

  • The old engine is removed from the mounting connectors using standard open-end wrenches.
  • First, disconnect the fuel and oil lines, if present.
  • Next, remove the centrifugal regulator.
  • Sometimes, when installing a new engine, it is necessary to use gaskets, but if the dimensions are selected correctly, there is no such need. The easiest way is to install an adapter plate with holes for fastening.

Selection and installation of the engine on the Ural walk-behind tractor

All gardeners and gardeners prepare their plots at the beginning of seasonal work. Many people use walk-behind tractors to plow the land. But not everyone can buy the latest models and continue to use the legacy of the Soviet Union. One such unit will be discussed today.

Lifan company

The founding date of the company is considered to be 1992. From that moment to this day, the company experienced many difficulties associated with its formation period, which allowed it to gain the necessary experience. At the moment, Lifan is considered one of the leading companies in China in this market segment.

The main specialization of the company is the production of passenger cars under the same brand. In addition, the organization’s specialists are engaged in the manufacture of motorcycles, scooters, buses, etc.

Lifan company

In 2006, the company entered the world market by introducing its first sedan, the Lifan 520. Later, in 2008, another premiere took place - this time, the corporation released the second representative of this model range, i.e. Lifan 620.

In the same 2008, a partnership agreement was concluded with American colleagues from AIG, Inc. The result of this cooperation was the emergence of a joint production venture.

Since 2010, Lifan Motors is considered the only private company in China specializing in automobile production. In general, the export share of cars of this brand is 11.38%, which is the second result in the country.

A garden sprayer will be a suitable unit for supplying plants with water; it will significantly save your time and effort, so purchasing such a device will be a truly profitable investment for absolutely any gardener. Here you can get acquainted with the Marolex sprayer.

Special units allow you to remove snow faster and in larger volumes than manually with a traditional shovel. By clicking on the link you can familiarize yourself with the technology of making a snow blower with your own hands.

In the spring, when it is time to plant seedlings, plant seeds and seedlings, the most labor-intensive work during this period is planting potatoes. With a potato planter for a walk-behind tractor, planting potatoes can be done quickly and efficiently.

The rapid pace of development has allowed us to significantly increase our representation around the world. In particular, over 165 factories were opened in America, Africa, Europe and Southeast Asia. After receiving the appropriate certificate, Lifan cars began to be widely distributed in the European Union.

Principle of operation

The centrifugal clutch has undeniable advantages such as reliability and long service life. This design is used in automatic transmissions. This device consists of a standard set of components:

  • flywheel;
  • pulley;
  • a hub equipped with a stopper groove and a key;
  • flange;
  • sleeve;
  • casing;
  • bearing;
  • retaining ring.

Due to the connection of the differential with the centrifugal clutch, control of the unit is facilitated, its maneuverability and smooth turns are improved. In addition, the differential regulates the speed of rotation of the wheels and participates in their blocking. Some models of walk-behind tractors use special blockers that allow you to stop one wheel independently of the other.

Modern units can be equipped with mechanisms of various designs. There are several types of these mechanisms:

  • frictional - easy to maintain and capable of working for a long time without pauses with high efficiency;
  • centrifugal - has the disadvantage of rapid wear of parts of industrial mechanisms;
  • belt - does not have high reliability and performance, quickly breaks down on powerful power plants;
  • hydraulic - by pressing the pedal, it sets into motion a piston, the rotation of which imparts movement to the lubricating fluid; the force is transmitted from the piston to the connecting rod, and the springs return it to its original position;
  • disk - characterized by high reliability of parts and smooth start-up; There are single-disc and multi-disc mechanisms that operate on the same principle.

Device

According to the engine instructions for the walk-behind tractor and walk-behind cultivator, the Lifan 4-stroke internal combustion engine has the following components and parts:

  • Fuel tank with filters.
  • Fuel tap.
  • Crankshaft.
  • Air filter.
  • Starter.
  • Spark plug.
  • Air damper lever.
  • Drain plug.
  • Oil plug.
  • Muffler.
  • Throttle lever.
  • Dipstick
  • Engine switch.
  • Working cylinder.
  • Gas distribution system valves.
  • Crankshaft bearing support.

The motor is equipped with a protective automatic oil level control system; in some models it has a built-in reduction gear to reduce the shaft rotation speed. The gas distribution system is equipped with intake and exhaust valves, manifolds, and a camshaft.

Hi all! I purchased a cultivator based on a lifan 168f 6.5 hp engine. After the first hundred, the cultivator began to work unstably, the speed was jumping. There is no detonation, just unstable rpm. It doesn't stall. At low speeds it works steadily, but at higher speeds the speed starts to jump. I close the damper, the one that is closed at startup steadily opens. Maybe he doesn't have enough fuel. I cleaned the carburetor and blew it out, it didn't help. How can you adjust the amount of fuel? Maybe the problem lies elsewhere. Help me please.

Hi all! I purchased a cultivator based on a lifan 168f 6.5 hp engine. After the first hundred, the cultivator began to work unstably, the speed was jumping. There is no detonation, just unstable rpm. I replaced the old engine with a lifan 168f. He worked for a year and smoked. At the same time, when I finished the work, it constantly stalled (the oil sensor was triggered), and it pulled poorly. in one word, tired. I changed the rings (380 rubles + 0.5 days of work) and started starting in half a click, does not smoke, does not stall (I bought 5 liters of SAE-30 oil at a tractor store, a little more expensive than 0.6 liters at a walk-behind tractor store). I was pleased: the valve adjustment (on the exhaust valve there is a Moskvich type cap, on the intake valve there is no such thing), can be disassembled with keys 10 and 12. I could barely unscrew the connecting rod bolts, I had to turn the small head on 10 with a gas wrench (the key is small, about 200 mm long) Regarding the adjustment, I found a Russian version of the operating instructions and a spare parts catalog on the net and, in principle, the questions disappeared by themselves.

What kind of oil to fill in the Lifan 168F-2 engine

The operating instructions for the engine will help you determine the correct choice of oil. Here is an excerpt from the instructions: • Oil is a key factor in keeping the engine running. Do not use oil with additives or 2-stroke engine oil, as... they do not contain enough lubrication, which reduces engine life. • Check the engine with it on a horizontal surface Recommended oil: SAE - 30 year, SAE - 10W - 30 all-season (see figure) Since viscosity varies depending on temperature and region, lubricant should be selected in accordance with our recommendations. See fig. 1.Install the engine on a horizontal surface. 2.Remove the dipstick and wipe it. 3.Insert the dipstick again into the neck of the oil sump without screwing on the cap and measure the oil level. 4.If the oil level is low, add the recommended engine oil. 5.Insert the dipstick into place.

The engine is equipped with an oil quantity control system (oil sensor). The oil quantity control system is designed to prevent engine damage due to insufficient oil in the crankcase. When the oil level becomes insufficient, the oil quantity control system will automatically stop the engine, preventing engine damage, while the engine switch remains in the “ON” position.

OIL SENSOR FUNCTION

The oil sensor is an element of the system that blocks the engine when the oil level decreases below a certain limit. Engine blocking is required: — when the vehicle rolls over or overturns. — Lifan engines are installed as drive engines not only in vehicles, but also in generators. Generators, as a rule, are stationary mechanisms; long-term monitoring of their operation is not required. Therefore, if something happens to the generator oil during operation, the blocking system will avoid its breakdown.

Fuel

Unleaded gasoline with an octane rating of at least 92 is used. The use of unleaded gasoline reduces the formation of soot and extends engine life. Never use unrefined gasoline or a mixture of gasoline and oil. The fuel must be free of dirt and water. A Japanese carburetor is installed. The engine runs reliably even on low-quality gasoline. If you decide to use gasoline that contains alcohol (gasoline), make sure that its octane rating is not lower than the recommended one. There are two types of gasoline alcohol: one containing ethanol, the other containing methanol. The ethanol content should not exceed 10%, and methanol - 5%. If there is more than 5% methanol in the mixture, it can reduce engine efficiency and, in addition, damage metal, rubber and plastic parts.

It is possible to purchase a certified gas module, which makes the engine dual-fuel gas - gasoline. In this case, the manufacturer's warranty remains valid.

Recommended spark plugs : BP6ES, BPR6ES(NGK) or NHSPLD F7RTCU. A clean spark plug guarantees normal engine operation and that no carbon deposits will appear around the spark plug. Measure the spark plug gap using a feeler gauge. The gap should be between 0.7 and 0.8 mm. Adjust the distance by bending the side electrode.

Check that the spark plug washer is in good condition and replace it if necessary. Screw the spark plug in by hand until it stops, and then tighten it using a special wrench. When installing a new spark plug, tighten the washer an additional 1/2 turn to press it down. If you are installing a spark plug that has already been used, tighten it 1/8-1/4 turn. WARNING • The spark plug must be carefully installed and pressed down. An insufficiently pressed spark plug can become very hot and damage the engine. • Use only recommended candles and similar. Incorrect spark plug temperature range can damage the engine. Screw in the spark plug carefully so as not to disturb the threads in the cylinder block.

An important feature of the engine is that it is unified with many similar motors and the mounting platform mount is the same, which does not cause difficulties when replacing the engine. The fact is often mentioned that Lifan is a copy of Honda (even sometimes licensed) - but this is not true. This information is voiced by Honda representatives.

Types of Lifan 168F-2 engines

The different delivery options differ:

  • diameter and type of output shaft
  • type and type of gearbox (1/2, 1/6, chain, gear, with automatic centrifugal clutch)
  • presence of electric starter and lighting coil

Lifan 168F-2 The cheapest configuration with a connecting shaft size of 19 or 20 mm.

Lifan 168F-2 The power unit has a conical shaft output; it differs from the base model only in the conical groove of the crankshaft toe, which ensures a more accurate and tight fit of the pulleys.

Lifan 168F-2L This engine has a built-in reduction gearbox with a landing diameter of the output shaft of 22 mm

WHY DO YOU NEED AN ENGINE REDUCE REDUCER?

- reduces the speed of rotation of the motor shaft, so with a gearbox - 1800 rpm, without a gearbox - 3600 rpm - it is important to understand that a reduction gearbox does not increase engine power, but increases its torque when its rotation speed decreases. Thus, the rated engine power remains virtually unchanged.

Lifan168F-2R The motor is also equipped with a reduction gear, but with an automatic centrifugal clutch, and the landing size of the secondary shaft of the gearbox is 20 mm.

Lifan 168FD-2R 7A The most expensive version of the engine is distinguished not only by the diameter of the gearbox output shaft increased to 22 mm, but also by the presence of an electric starter. However, the rectifier required to charge the battery is not included in the delivery package.

Here are examples of engine modifications:

Running in a new engine

Engine running-in is a mandatory procedure that extends the service life of the mechanism. To break in the engine of a walk-behind tractor, you must follow the operating instructions for the product and use high-quality fuel and oil of recommended brands.

Run-in is performed as follows:

  1. Before starting the engine, you must check the oil level in the crankcase.
  2. Check and, if necessary, fill the transmission with oil.
  3. Fill the fuel tank with flammable material.
  4. Start the engine at low speed.
  5. Start working with the walk-behind tractor in a gentle mode, alternating gears. Till the soil in 2 steps to a depth of no more than 10 cm in 1 pass; cultivate in 2nd gear.
  6. After break-in, change the oil in the engine, transmission components, and gearbox of the walk-behind tractor, inspect the consumables, change the oil filters, and fill in with new fuel.
  7. The break-in procedure lasts about 8 hours.

After a competent running-in of the new motor, the walk-behind tractor is ready to work at maximum loads.

Ural walk-behind tractor with UMZ 5V engine

A special feature of the Ural walk-behind tractor model with the UMZ 5V engine is its ability to process clay and other heavy soils without loss of operating efficiency. Combined with the ability to work in almost any climatic conditions and maintainability literally on the go, this has made the model one of the most popular among domestic gardeners.

The unit belongs to the uniaxial category. Its track is quite wide, but can be easily adjusted to suit operational needs. You can set the required value, both based on the characteristics of the soil and the work process. The package includes a one and a half liter oil tank.

The main purpose of such a motor cultivator is to cultivate a plot of land for the purpose of further planting selected crops on it. Work such as transportation of goods, haymaking, garbage and snow removal is possible only after installing attachments. At the same time, there is no shortage of models of the latter.

General technical characteristics of the Urals UMZ-5V:

  1. weight - 120 kilograms;
  2. air cooling of the motor;
  3. 82mm cylinder;
  4. gasoline engine with a power of 5 horsepower;
  5. fuel tank with a volume of 6 liters.

The rather large dimensions and massiveness of the machine in the eyes of many are its main drawback. Because of this, it is quite difficult to transport it over long distances. Despite the fact that it is suitable only for processing medium areas. An important drawback is the noise level, which requires the use of protective headphones.

How to operate

The service manual for Ural walk-behind tractors of the UMP and UMB series is not much different from the operating instructions for any other similar unit, and in many ways it is even simpler than them. And first of all, the device is prepared for operation. To prepare, perform several extremely simple and universal actions:

  • conduct a general inspection of the walk-behind tractor;
  • check for fuel or oil leaks;
  • set the gearbox to neutral position;
  • measure what the fuel and oil levels are in the respective tanks;
  • if necessary, add working fluids;
  • check the operation of the engine by turning it on.

Ural walk-behind tractors have the greatest maneuverability compared to their competitors.
If no problems were identified at the preparatory stage, they begin work. For what:

  1. switch the engine to low speed;
  2. disengage the clutch mechanism;
  3. turn on the required speed on the gearbox;
  4. release the clutch release lever, which leads to an increase in speed and the start of movement.

But before starting constant operation of the unit, it is run-in. Thanks to this procedure, you can significantly extend the life of the Ural motor cultivator. This is carried out not only immediately after purchasing the device, but also after any prolonged downtime.

For proper break-in, you must:

  • Start the engine at idle speed. Despite the fact that the gearbox must be in the neutral position.
  • The unit operates in this mode for the first five hours, without load.
  • After they are completed, the device is loaded at half power and it operates like this for the next 25 hours.
  • Over the next 30 hours, the owner gradually increases the load on the machine until it reaches its maximum.

Important! Run-in is not carried out without first adjusting the belt tension.

  3. Spark arrester treatment.

The following procedures are carried out once a year:

  1. Checking and adjusting the idle speed of the engine.
  2. Adjusting good valve clearances.
  3. Complete oil change.
  4. Cleaning the fuel tank.

Every 4.5 years the fuel line is checked.

Valve adjustment is a necessary procedure for engine maintenance. According to the regulations, it is carried out once a year and consists of installing good clearances of the intake and exhaust valves. Their permissible value for each motor model is presented in the technical data sheet of the unit. For standard walk-behind tractors they have the following values:

  • for the intake valve - 0.10-0.15 mm;
  • for the exhaust valve - 0.15-0.20 mm.

The gaps are adjusted using standard feeler gauges of 0.10 mm, 0.15 mm, 0.20 mm.

With the correct settings of the intake and exhaust valves, the engine operates without noise, knocking or jerking.

Carrying out an oil change operation is a fundamental procedure that affects the running properties and improves the operation of the mechanism.

The frequency of the procedure depends on many reasons:

    Engines for the Ural walk-behind tractor: UMZ-5B

    Carburetor engines of the Ulyanovsk Motor Plant UMZ-5 in the UMZ-5B and UMZ-5DU-B models, which were installed on the UMB-K Ural agricultural unit, are 4-stroke single-cylinder. They run on gasoline with a minimum octane number and have a forced air cooling system. They have a power of 4.5 liters. s., crankshaft revolutions per minute – 2000 (at rated power).

    The UMZ-5B has a 2-stage transmission gearbox, while the UMZ-5DU-B device has a single-stage gearbox - this is their main difference. The gearbox diagram is shown below.

    The operating manual and repair instructions for these Soviet-made motors include:

    • recommendations for engine care (what oil to fill and how to change it, how to clean the fuel tank, how to change spare parts);
    • procedure for action in case of malfunctions;
    • algorithm of actions for correct adjustment of the internal combustion engine carburetor.

    The correct operation of the entire system will depend on the correct adjustment of such an important component of an internal combustion engine as the carburetor.

    1. First, be sure to warm up the engine, and at minimum speed you need to tighten the idle speed screw all the way, and then unscrew it a little, about 2.5 turns.
    2. Next, you need to close the throttle valve and, by rotating the limiter screw, set a smaller opening angle at which the engine runs smoothly and without interruption.
    3. It is necessary to “catch” the moment when the internal combustion engine reaches its maximum speed by screwing in and unscrewing the idle speed screw.
    4. Now the screw that regulates the opening of the damper is again set so that its opening angle is minimal, provided that the motor operates smoothly.
    5. If the speed increases, steps 3 and 4 must be continued until the engine speed increases.

    Change of oil

    Carrying out an oil change operation is an important procedure that affects many driving characteristics and improves the operation of the mechanism.

    The frequency of the procedure depends on many factors:

    • frequency of operation;
    • technical condition of the motor;
    • conditions of use;
    • the quality of the oil itself.

    Engine for walk-behind tractor Neva MB-2

    To replace the power unit on the Neva MB-2 walk-behind tractor, not only domestic engines are suitable, but also imported engines with more, or, conversely, less power. Since the beginning of production, Neva MB-2 walk-behind tractors have been equipped with Russian DM-1K engines. The latter have proven themselves to be reliable and quite durable motors, the main disadvantage of which was considered to be their low working life.

    Today, imported engines help solve this problem - they can be simply installed on the Neva MB-2 walk-behind tractor, they do not require special maintenance and have a long service life. Moreover, foreign-made engines will not cost the farmer much more than domestic engines. At the same time, not every motor is suitable for installation on a domestic Neva unit. The following models of domestic and imported engines will be optimal for installation on the Neva MB-2 walk-behind tractor:

    • Vityaz 168F;

    The best evidence of the popularity of the Patriot walk-behind tractor from the Ural brand is reviews from owners and video reviews.

    I bought a Ural walk-behind tractor to cultivate a plot of slightly more than half a hectare. Well what can I say? It’s immediately clear that this is a domestic technology and it doesn’t look newfangled at all. But, at the same time, it fulfills its function entirely. I have heavy soil. But the cultivator has not broken down even once in three years! I adapted it for other work, buying all sorts of canopies. In general, if you are looking for something cheap and powerful, but appearance is not the main thing for you, this is the solution for you.

    Such a walk-behind tractor is what a farmer from the Middle Zone needs. Minimum of problems, sufficient power for plowing, can be repaired in one go. What else does? Yes, the model is a little outdated. But reliability and performance are more important.
