All chainsaws have 2-stroke internal combustion engines. There are two tanks: for the fuel mixture and oil. The volume of the tank in the usual case is about 0.3-1 liter, and the container for oil is usually 2 times smaller. These proportions lead to the fact that after the fuel mixture in the tank runs out, the oil is consumed almost equally.

Do not use used oil or low-viscosity oils such as spindle, industrial and transformer oils to lubricate the chain. Running in a chainsaw

Before using any imported chainsaw, it is required to run it in first. Stand from the trunk of the fallen tree to the left, cut off the branches from it, move from the bottom of the trunk. Try not to use the nose part of the chainsaw; work slowly. Chainsaw care

Gas-powered saws should be kept under cover or in open areas. Before storing the tool, it must be cleaned of sawdust and dirt, drain the fuel from the tank, remove the saw chain and place it in oil. Open areas that are subject to corrosion must be lubricated with a layer of oil. The chainsaw must be preserved for long-term storage.

After working with a gas-powered saw, you must do the following:

Check the chain saw tension and lubrication. If you run out of oil, you need to add it to the tank and tighten the chain if it is loose. Let the tool rest and cool for a while, then fill the saw with gasoline.

Engine starting

With combined controls

You can start a cold engine in the following sequence:

simultaneously press the throttle trigger lever and move the damper control shaft to the lowest position, the air damper in this case is completely closed;
pull the handle of the starter cord several times until the first flash of fuel in the engine;
move the control shaft to the middle position;
repeat the procedure for starting the engine;
After starting the engine, press and release the throttle trigger, the control shaft in this case automatically moves to operating position I.

move the control shaft to the normal idle position;
start the engine;

Safe work rules

It is strictly forbidden to work with an unregulated and faulty gas-powered saw.

Before finishing sawing, the sawyer and assistant must carefully monitor the direction in which the tree is falling, moving quickly to the side with the saw, but not against the butt of the tree.
Passing through a moving chain is prohibited. If the chain runs out or breaks, you must immediately release the gas and turn off the engine. The saw chain may only be attached to the bar when the engine is not running.
When refueling a gas chain saw, according to the operating instructions for the Huskvarna, Goodluck, Ural, Shtil and other chainsaws, smoking is prohibited.
Filling a chainsaw with fuel mixture at a distance of less than 20 meters from an open fire is strictly prohibited.
The carburetor should be adjusted so as to ensure the least contamination of the exhaust gas inhalation zone, and stable idle speed of the engine, at which the saw chain does not move along the bar.
When moving over a long distance, the chain saw engine should be turned off and tightly covered with a special cover.
Felling trees using a gas-powered saw must be done exclusively in a prepared cutting area, where dangerous hanging and dead trees have been removed.

Clean properly

To effectively clean your chainsaw, you will need the following tools:

Phillips and flathead screwdrivers
Keys with heads of different sizes,
Special detergent, cleaning cloth

The carburetor of a chainsaw should be cleaned according to the following algorithm:

First you need to drain the remaining fuel from the fuel tank. Remove the chainsaw cover by unscrewing the fastener. Remove the filter and disassemble the housing, removing nuts and clamps if necessary.
Remove the fuel mixture supply hose from the clamp, unscrew the fastening of the carburetor top cover. Then remove the top cover and blue gasket. This is the fuel pump diaphragm. There are spring brackets to the left of the case, remove them and then the screws. It is advisable to label the parts and schematically record the places from which they were removed so as not to confuse anything during assembly.
Remove the bottom carburetor cover, unscrew the screw and remove the needle valve and the spring underneath it. Then remove the air damper and its axis with longitudinal force.
Remove the throttle body, drive arm and throttle shaft.
Place all removed carburetor parts on a flat surface and check their integrity. Spare parts with a high degree of wear must be replaced with new ones.
Use a special detergent to wash the parts and dry them with a lint-free cloth. The tubes must be purged under pressure using a pump.
To achieve maximum effect, you can clean the carburetor on your Stihl chainsaw using a special bath cleaner based on the cavitation effect. The bath is filled with diesel fuel, the carburetor parts are immersed in it for several minutes. Finally, dry the parts using a pump.

How to clean the muffler on a chainsaw
